Sarah Kerr Muirhead
1947 - 2026
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sarah Kerr Muirhead (nee McDonald) at the age of 78. She passed peacefully with family by her side at Parkwood Institute, London ON, on 17 February 2026.
Sarah was born on 2 July 1947 in Falkirk, Scotland, to Charles (1996) and Sarah (1973). She immigrated to Canada in 1970 with two very young kids in tow. She missed Scotland and her family, but she was also a proud Canadian.
Sarah leaves behind her sister Rose (Stuart 2005) and predeceased brother Charlie (2012) Margaret). She was a loving mother to her son Scott (Lori) and her daughter Angela (Rich). She was a proud grandma to Gerald, Shianne, Kaitlyn and Connor, and the proudest great grandma to Aubrey, Autuym, Serenitie and Kaysten. She will be missed by her sisters-in-law and bother-in-law, her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in Scotland.
Sarah had many wonderful years working, first Towers, then Zellers (Welland ON). She worked with some amazing people; she always spoke often and kindly about them. They were her extended family.
Sarah loved her family very much; she always wished that they all lived closer. She wanted to see her grandkids and great grandkids grow up, she wanted to spoil them, with love on birthdays and holidays, she wanted to have Sunday roast beef dinner with them. She always cherished the time she had with them; she loved seeing pictures of them, or Facetiming with them. Sarah will forever love Billy; he was the love of her life.
The family cannot thank the staff, nurses, PSWs and doctors of the palliative care team at Parkwood Institute. From the moment she arrived on the ward she received the most amazing, over the top care. Every nurse and PSW that cared for her was gentle, kind and made her feel safe. They all spoke about her Scottish accent, how they loved her and how sweet she was. You also made this journey bearable for her family. A special shout out to Patrick, you were going to fix all her problems, we were so happy you cared for her in her last hours. She only opened her eye a few times in her couple of days, but her face lit up when she saw you – Thank you. A big thank you to a couple of families, on their own journey, took time to share a hug and words of understanding.
Angela would like to personally thank Mary and Liz, you were there when Sarah needed someone, you took her to appointments, you made her food, you checked on her, and you made sure she was safe. You took time out of our lives to be there. Angela couldn’t have managed the journey over the four months without you, You are both Angels.
As per her wishes, Sarah will be cremated and she will finally get to go home to Scotland.
