Jacques Joseph Antonio Plante

Born February 26, 1954, in Grondines, Quebec.

Died peacefully at Victoria Hospital on May 26, 2026, at the age of 72, with his wife, Verna, by his side and surrounded by family.

Beloved husband of Verna (Bessey) Plante for over 26 years.

They met on June 27, 1996, at Rumours Club in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. From the very first night, they were drawn to one another. Verna jokingly told Jacques, "You can leave your boots under my bed any night," and from that day forward, his boots never left. They were married three years later, on August 14, 1999.

Loving father of Véronique Plante and Sébastien Plante.

Stepfather of Deon Bessey(Beth), Leon Bessey (deceased), Paula Webber(Troy), Geraldine Webber, Albert Webber, and Geoffrey Webber.

Son of Girard Plante(deceased) and Germaine (Ludger)(deceased).

Cherished brother of four siblings: Marcel Plante, Claudette Plante (deceased), Claude Plante (deceased), and Alain Plante (deceased).

Brother-in-law of Hounsell Bessey, Melvin Bessey,  Rebecca O'Leary, Martha Best, Lavenia Green, Garfield Bessey (deceased), Violet March (deceased), Vina Roberts (deceased), Jessy Blake (deceased), and Effie Best (deceased).

He leaves behind grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Verna was the love of his life. He loved her cooking and baking and would often sneak a few bites before a meal or dessert was ready. Whenever she made sweets for family gatherings, Jacques would try to sample them beforehand. Over the years, Verna learned to always make a little extra, especially when it came to sweets and cheese, knowing how much he enjoyed them.

Because Jacques was from Quebec, he earned the nickname "Frog." Over the years, he and Verna developed an impressive collection of frog-themed items, many of which were gifts from family and friends. Their collection included everything from stuffed animals and mugs to toys and decorations.

Jacques had a great love for Bingo and Tim Hortons coffee. Those closest to him had his coffee order memorized: a dark roast regular. He took Bingo very seriously—once he was playing, interruptions were not welcome. With twelve or more Bingo cards spread out in front of him, he never seemed to miss a number that was called.

He loved spending time with family and looked forward to family gatherings. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always trying to make them laugh and smile. He also appreciated his peace and quiet and enjoyed spending time relaxing at home.

Jacques will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him especially his family and new friends he made at his his new home.
