On December 8, peacefully with her children by her side, Mary Elizabeth Elliott (nee Tutton) passed away in her 96th year.

Beloved wife of the late Dr. Donald Elliott (1993) and of the late Len Birchard (2008). Loving Mother of Douglas (Johanne), Victor (Karyn) and Martha. Grandmother of five, Lindsey, Nicole, Arran, Lauren and Colin. Greatgrandmother of six. Sister of late Elinor and Hilda.

Born near Galt, Ontario in 1924 to Velma and Charles Tutton. Mary graduated from Galt Collegiate High School. She served as a sergeant in WWII, and married her high school sweetheart. Mary was a graduate of McMaster University, and the Western School of Library and Information Science. Mary was a faithful member of Rowntree United Church and was Past President of the Women’s Canadian Club. She was an active volunteer with Friendship in Action, and ELUCO. After Don’s retirement, they enjoyed spending time at Sonaburn Farm.

We would like to thank our Arbor Trace family for their kindness and love for our mother.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the Spring when interment will take place.

In lieu of flowers, please consider helping others the way Mary did, and support ELUCO, Teen Challenge or similar agencies in your community. Messages and condolences may be left at www.forestcitycremation.com

Always practical, never pretentious, Mary (and Don by extension) exemplified the best of virtuous people. How such a small engine pulled so much weight makes one proud to call her friend. We’ve missed you dearly at Rowntree over the past few years, and will always remember your endless energy and enthusiasm.
