It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing with family by her side, of our beloved Dorothy Winnifred Thompson (nee Field) on August 17, 2020 at The Village of Glendale Crossing, London, Ontario. Predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Denton John Frederick (2011), and her siblings, Edward, Harry and Marjorie. Caring and devoted mother to Gary Thompson (Deb), Marjorie Haley (Rick), Mark Thompson (Rita). Proud Nana to Ryan Thompson (Luciana), Kyle Thompson (Tiffany), Tarilyn McGrath (Russell), Lyona Lunter (Brendan), Kathy Ormond (Mitch), Lisa Slipetz (Ryan) and Mitchell Haley. Great Nana to Brady and Vaera Lunter, Denton Haley and Olivia Ormond.

Dorothy was born in Grenville, Quebec in 1922. She was an avid tennis player and swimmer (beginning in her early teens in Lac Grenville, Kilmar, Quebec) and was on the swim team at her all girls high school in Montreal.  She continued her love of swimming and taught her children and grandchildren to swim, with a warm towel to embrace them afterwards.  She was the ultimate homemaker and made the best chocolate chip cookies, homemade strawberry jam and shepherds pie. Family will cherish the many happy get togethers around her dinner table. She lived a full life of fun and adventure with travels to Jamaica, Hawaii and throughout North America. She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and always welcomed them with open arms and hugs and kisses.  She will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew her.

Many thanks to the medical team at the ACE unit at Victoria Hospital, London, and especially to the caring staff and Palliative Care Team at The Village of Glendale Crossing, for their exemplary compassion and loving care.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at St. James Westminster Anglican Church at a future date, for a celebration of Dorothy’s life.

In her memory, messages and condolences may be left at www.forestcitycremation.com or on Facebook. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. James Westminster Anglican Church, 115 Askin St. London, ON N6C 1E7. (Phone 519-432-1915 or office@stjameswest.ca).

My wishes for peace and comfort to the family of Dorothy. You are saying good-bye to a very special person, indeed. I met Dorothy at Glendale, where she and my mother had neighbouring rooms. I had lovely exchanges with Dorothy. It was a delight to speak with her; she was always so welcoming, cheerful and positive, and seemed to have such a deep appreciation for her life and all the joy she had experienced. She was a very joyful person to be with. May all the love she shared with her family continue to warm their hearts.
Dorothy, may you now enjoy swimming in heavenly waters!
With love, Paula

My deepest sympathy to Dorothy’s family. I knew her when I was Chaplain at Glendale Crossing. Dorothy always got up when I came into her room and gave me a warm smile and a big hug. She loved attending Sunday Services, Prayer Circle, hymns sings and any other social programs. Dorothy always prayed each week for her son who was in the road, that he would travel safely. She was so proud of her family. Dorothy always smiled, was happy and so grateful for any help she received. I will miss her hugs and smiles.

We were so sad to hear of Dorothy's passing and the news brought back a flood of wonderful memories for our family. Dorothy & Denton were absolutely the best neighbours! Our daughters thought of them as 2nd grandparents. They always knew when the "gate" was open they were welcome to come for a swim and enjoy a special treat! Dorothy was always waiting with a big hug for each of them. We always received a Christmas plate of her amazing cookies each year and they never lasted more than a few days! She was always smiling and proudly spoke of her family who she adored with all her heart. She truly was a real gem and heaven has definitely gained another angel. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and know we are thinking of you all during this time.
