Suddenly but peacefully with his family by his side, Aulis Laine passed away at the age of 87 on December 13, 2022.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Darlene. Aulis will be remembered always and lovingly by his daughter Margot Humby (Mike) and his son Alexander Laine (Susan). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Stephanie, Michaela, Madison and Connor.

Aulis lived a full and accomplished life. He was born to Finnish immigrants who settled near Thunder Bay. He excelled at school and was selected for ROTC, studying physics at University College in Toronto. After graduation Aulis served his country in the Gaza Strip, an officer in Signals, helping displaced Palestinians. In 2002 he was awarded the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal. After fulfilling his military duty, he returned to Thunder Bay where he began his career in education. It was there that he found his true calling, becoming the head of the science and math departments. Aulis then moved his young family to London where he became a vice principal, working at Westminster, Beal, Central and Clarke Road High schools. He touched many people during his career. His calm demeanour, kindness and dedication inspired many students to reach their potential.  He will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday February 19th, 2023, from 1-3 p.m. at Sunningdale Golf and Country Club in the Medway Room. Donations can be made to Alzheimer Society Southwest Partner.
