Friends and family will miss John’s many humorous stories and his forthright candor.  In spite of many health challenges, he enjoyed life to the fullest and passed away from cancer on March 1st.

John was born in Saskatoon and grew up in rural Saskatchewan, Morpeth and London, with his father, Rev. Cecil Jardine; his mother, Della; and his brother, George of Waterloo.  After graduating from South Collegiate, he met the love of his life, Lorraine (Murray), 60 years ago at Westminster College, Western University.  It was his good fortune to become a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and he cherished his many life-long friends from university.

As a Civil Engineer, he worked in marketing and sales for construction-related companies in  Milwaukee, Toledo and Baltimore before returning to London to raise his family.  He worked in London for Sifton Properties and in Brantford for TCG Materials.  Returning to London once more, he became Water Operations Manager and then City Engineer for London from 1992-2001, before establishing his own consulting company.   The family is proud of him being awarded Western University’s L. S. Lauchland Engineering Alumni Medal in 2001.  But he was proudest of his sons and their families: Scott and his wife, Mandy of Denver, Colorado; Kevin and his wife, Ashley, of Carbondale, Colorado, and their children, Grace (19) and Bennett(16).

Over the years, John enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, skiing, trap-shooting, hunting  and telling stories with family and friends.  John and Lorraine spent several years touring with their RV, to every state and every province.  Life was never boring — he always made us laugh.  He loved his Westies, the birds at his backyard feeder, photographing sunrises and sunsets, and winding down the day with a martini and occasional cigar.  John was remarkable in accepting what was to come, which gave us strength as well.  Memories of our good times together continue to make us smile.  He will be greatly missed.

There will be a family Celebration of Life at a later date.  Should you wish to make a donation to commemorate his life, please consider the London Food Bank, Wesley-Knox United Church or a charity of your choice.
