Alastair was born on May 27, 1943 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Louis and Ethel MacDonald. As a young man Alastair trained as a Reservist with the Royal Regina Rifles. He later graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Physics in May 1968. On May 22, 1976, he married Dorothy Foy. They raised their two daughters, Jennifer and Megan, and lived in Flamborough, Ontario where Alastair worked as a mathematics teacher at Waterdown District High School. In 2002 Alastair, Dorothy and their younger daughter Megan moved to Tillsonburg, Ontario.
Al was a proud and active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 153, helping with the Poppy Campaign every year. Alastair was a fiercely proud Canadian and loyal supporter of the Legion. His jokes, stories and welcoming spirit will be missed in the canteen.
Donations to the Royal Canadian Poppy Fund are gratefully appreciated by Al’s family and can be made at www.legion.ca/remembrance/the-poppy-campaign/donate-to-the-poppy-fund
